Perioplastics
Leading-edge care offers you esthetic improvements never before possible

These days, cosmetic surgery goes beyond the face and body to improve the appearance of your smile and boost your confidence. What is known as perioplastics is actually several procedures that can change your smile’s appearance by reshaping or recontouring the gumline.
Dr. R. Eduardo del Amo and Dr. Jose R. Mellado have over 30 years of combined experience in periodontal cosmetic procedures and with today’s advanced perioplastic techniques, beautiful outcomes can be achieved for patients of all ages.
Advanced crown lengthening to reduce excess gum tissue
Do you have short teeth or a gummy smile? While your teeth appear shorter than normal, they are actually covered by excess gum tissue. Drs. del Amo and Mellado can sculpt your gumline and lengthen your teeth through crown lengthening, where excess gum tissue is removed to expose more of the crown of the tooth. This procedure creates adequate room to place quality, natural-looking restorations. Additionally, crown lengthening can help improve oral health by recontouring troublesome gum pockets.
This type of perioplastics is sometimes performed on people who are scheduled to get braces. Even when braces are placed perfectly on the teeth, some patients develop gum overgrowth. This usually occurs when the teeth appear short prior to braces placement. Dr. del Amo and Dr. Mellado can prevent this problem from occurring by pretreating thick gums through crown lengthening.

State-of-the-art grafting to build up gum tissue
Gum recession usually results in exposed tooth roots, causing sensitivity to hot and cold food and drink. Or you may naturally appear a little “long in the tooth” and wish to change this. In either case, Dr. del Amo and Dr. Mellado’s soft-tissue grafting techniques can cover the tooth roots, reduce sensitivity, improve your smile’s appearance and help prevent additional recession.
Grafting is a predictable procedure used to cover unsightly, sensitive or exposed root surfaces and to prevent future gum recession and can be done for one or several teeth. If restoration is needed, this procedure sets the stage for new veneers and crowns to have the correct length and shape. Dr. del Amo and Dr. Mellado also use AlloDerm® as an alternative to conventional grafts for quicker healing with less pain.
